Overview As a Research Scientist Senior at UAB Ophthalmology, you will lead substantial research programs, guiding study design, data analysis, and grant development. You will shape the research agenda while collaborating across disciplines to advance metabolic, GI, and ocular disease studies. You'll manage preclinical and translational projects, ensure GLP compliance, and supervise teams to maintain rigorous scientific standards. This role offers the chance to drive impactful, multidisciplinary research and contribute to a translational science mission.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and conduct scientific research with independent project evaluation
- Design, perform, and oversee preclinical and translational studies on metabolic diseases
- Maintain GLP-compliant notebooks, records, and safety procedures
- Manage laboratory records, animal colonies, and regulatory documentation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support study objectives
- Design and conduct gastroenterology studies on gut microbiome-host interactions and related diseases
- Perform data collection, management, analysis, and ensure reproducibility
- Prepare analyses, reports, figures, and manuscripts for publication and grants
- Mentor and train lab personnel on procedures and best practices
- Develop and maintain IACUC protocols and ensure compliance
Key requirements- Doctorate degree in a related field and three years of related experience OR Master's degree in a related field and five years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven years of related experience
