Senior Underwriter / Account Executive Officer - Commercial Accounts / Middle Market Underwriter

Overview

In this role you partner with agents and brokers to place property, general liability, commercial auto, and/or workers' compensation coverage for new and renewal business. You will underwrite and negotiate complex accounts to balance risk and profitability, while building strong internal and external relationships to drive growth. You will identify opportunities, develop agency sales plans, and mentor less experienced teammates, all within Travelers' risk appetite. Travel to meet partners as needed to market and write accounts.

Responsibilities
  • Manage profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business
  • Underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximise profitability
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners (agents and brokers), meeting in person to market and sell Travelers products while traveling as required
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills
  • Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and partner with Managing Director to develop region/group sales plans
  • May assist in training and mentoring less experienced Account Executives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience in commercial lines
  • Deep knowledge of commercial lines products, regulatory environment, and local insurance market
  • Strong critical thinking for risk, marketing, and financial decisions aligned with risk appetite
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills with agents and brokers
