Overview

In this Senior Underwriting Specialist role, you will provide technical direction in Ocean Cargo, underwriting large and complex accounts within a global insurer. You'll manage a book of business, participate in portfolio reviews, and influence pricing, terms, and deal structures. You'll collaborate with marine leadership and brokers to target desirable accounts and cross-sell opportunities while upholding high underwriting quality. You will help grow the business and develop talent in a culture that values collaboration and inclusion. Responsibilities
  • Provide technical direction to management, underwriters, producers, and claims adjusting colleagues
  • Underwrite, modify, or decline new and renewal submissions by identifying exposures and required analyses
  • Perform strategic account and portfolio reviews
  • Manage a book of business and contribute to regional budget and goals
  • Set new business production goals and submission flow for the book of business
  • Collaborate with North American Marine Leadership, Distribution, and other lines of business to target desirable accounts and cross-sell
  • Develop and implement pricing, negotiation strategy, terms & conditions, and deal structures with brokers and clients
  • Deliver superior customer service to brokers and clients
  • Represent AIG at client and broker meetings
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, inclusive culture and attract/develop talent
Key requirements
  • Minimum 7+ years of Commercial Insurance experience (Company, Agency or Brokerage)
  • Advanced knowledge of Marine Cargo and understanding of multinational and captive programs
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable in dynamic, fast-paced environments with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; proven collaboration and trust-building
  • Strong financial understanding and focus on profitable outcomes
