About the role
NETS USA is hiring fibre technicians for a new fibre patching operation inside a major hyperscale data centre in Aurora. You will join a team of three technicians working under an on-site Lead Engineer. You will install, route, label, clean, test and remediate fibre to strict quality standards.
What you'll do
• Install, route and remove fibre according to provided blueprints, with typical runs up to about 42 metres
• Label every fibre to the customer's approved standard (Brady labelling system)
• Clean and inspect (scope) fibre end-faces before every connection
• Carry out OTDR testing and record the results accurately
• Work through a ticket queue assigned by the Lead Engineer and track each task against its reference number
• Do QA checks and fix any issues found
• When there are no active tickets, remediate existing fibre: correct labels, routing and cleanliness, and keep trays tidy (initial remediation is expected to take about 6 weeks)
• Follow all site safety, security and fibre-handling procedures
What you need
• 1-3+ years of hands-on fibre or structured cabling experience, ideally in a data centre, colocation or telecom environment
• Practical experience with fibre cleaning and inspection scopes, patching and cable management
• Experience using an OTDR, or the ability to learn it quickly (OTDR units are provided on site)
• Ability to read rack elevations, blueprints and cabling diagrams
• Strong written and spoken English, including clear ticket updates and test records
• Careful, methodical working and pride in tidy, standards-compliant work
• Your own basic hand tools for fibre and cabling work (specialist test equipment is provided)
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, plus any site security clearance the customer requires
• Able to stand, bend, lift up to 50 lb and work in raised-floor and overhead tray environments
Nice to have
• FOA CFOT, BICSI Installer or a manufacturer fibre certification
• Experience with a ticketing or work-order system
• Previous work at a hyperscale or colocation site
