HOUSE MANAGER - HYBRID ROLE

House Manager's Network

Brooklyn, New York

Job description

Job Description Job Description

HOUSE MANAGER
Brooklyn, NY Part-time, hybrid $50-$60 per hour

A private family in Brooklyn is seeking an experienced House Manager to coordinate household operations, manage projects, and keep the home and family's schedules running smoothly. The household includes two adults, one of whom is a stay-at-home mom, a toddler, two cats, a dog, and a puppy.

This is a flexible, self-managed schedule with 15 guaranteed hours per week. The role includes remote work and in-person household oversight as needed to keep tasks moving, make sure nothing falls through the cracks, and maintain the home in showroom-ready condition. Candidates must live within 30 minutes of Brooklyn so they can respond to household emergencies. Living nearby is a firm requirement.

Responsibilities

• Manage the family calendar, appointments, service visits, and reminders. Track open tasks and follow up so important details do not get missed.

• Research and coordinate flights, trips, accommodations, reservations, and ground transportation.

• Find, evaluate, and coordinate vendors and service professionals, including doctors' offices, attorneys, landscapers, and household providers. Obtain and compare proposals, negotiate pricing and service terms, schedule visits, and confirm that work is completed properly.

• Take ownership of household projects from start to finish, including home updates, decorating, and construction. Research options, coordinate vendors, manage timelines and details, address issues, and keep the family informed through completion.

• Coordinate the housekeeper and pet sitter, communicate priorities, and follow up on agreed responsibilities.

• Oversee preventive maintenance for household systems and equipment. Track service schedules, repairs, warranties, and upcoming needs.

• Create and maintain a comprehensive household manual documenting home systems, equipment, service providers, maintenance schedules, warranties, and other essential household information.

• Order groceries and household supplies, monitor inventory, and help keep the home organized, well-stocked, and showroom-ready.

• Check that landscaping and recurring services are completed properly.

• Reset the home between housekeeping visits when needed and assist with family events as they arise.

Experience and qualifications

• At least three years of experience in household management, family assistance, or a closely related role, including at least two years working with one family.

• Direct experience coordinating household operations, vendors, staff, schedules, or home projects. Nanny experience alone does not meet the requirements; this is not a nanny position.

• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and carry them through to completion.

• Strong vendor negotiation skills, including the ability to compare proposals and negotiate pricing, scope, and service terms.

• Excellent computer skills and strong online research ability. The role involves finding, comparing, and organizing information and managing household details digitally.

• Strong calendar management, organization, and ability to prioritize competing tasks, use sound judgment, and keep follow-up items moving independently.

• Clear, proactive communication: able to provide concise updates, raise concerns early, and keep the family informed without waiting to be asked.

• Experience establishing or maintaining systems for preventive maintenance, household documentation, and staff coordination.

• Discretion and sound judgment when handling family information, home access, and household matters.

• A college degree is a major plus.

• Virtual assistants and hybrid professionals are encouraged to apply if they have managed household operations or a specific aspect of a home.
