Job Description Job Description Steel Traditions, a custom steel window and door manufacturer in Vista, California, is looking for an experienced AutoCAD Drafter to join our in-house drafting team.
We are looking for someone who is fast, accurate, organized, and highly proficient in 2D AutoCAD. This is a hands-on production drafting position on custom architectural windows and doors that are manufactured directly from our approved shop drawings.
Previous window and door experience is helpful, but not required. Candidates with experience in glazing and storefront, architectural metal, millwork, cabinetry, railings, stairs, gates, custom fabrication, or other construction shop drawings are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
- Create detailed 2D AutoCAD shop drawings for custom steel windows and doors
- Read and interpret architectural plans, elevations, schedules, sections, and details
- Translate architectural plans and project information into accurate shop drawings
- Incorporate customer and internal redlines accurately and efficiently
- Prepare elevations, sections, dimensions, details, and product configurations
- Verify dimensions, swing directions, configurations, hardware locations, and other critical information
- Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear information before drawings are released
- Coordinate drawing details with our production and operations teams
- Manage revisions and maintain organized project drawing files
- Work on multiple active projects while meeting drafting deadlines
Required
- Strong proficiency in 2D AutoCAD
- Ability to read and understand architectural and construction drawings
- Strong understanding of dimensions, scale, elevations, sections, and construction details
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong drafting speed and efficiency
- Ability to accurately follow written redlines and verbal direction
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Dependable and able to work consistently in an on-site team environment
Preferred
- SolidWorks experience is a plus
- Previous shop drawing experience
- Experience with windows, doors, storefront, glazing, curtain wall, architectural metal, millwork, cabinetry, or custom fabrication
- Experience working with a manufacturing or fabrication team
What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate can receive a set of architectural plans or redlined drawings, understand what needs to be produced or changed, ask good questions when information is unclear, and complete the work accurately and efficiently. This position suits someone who enjoys technical drafting and takes pride in clean, detailed drawings used for manufacturing. Compensation $28 to $32 per hour, based on relevant experience and demonstrated drafting proficiency. Schedule Full time, Monday through Friday, on site at our Vista, California facility.
