Overview In this role you will own complex payroll tax casework in a high-volume environment, resolving notices, corrections, amendments, and pay-and-file tasks for multiple jurisdictions. You will mentor and model best practices for TP1 staff while growing your own technical depth, partnering with cross-functional teams to improve processes and documentation. The work directly supports accurate tax filings and timely issue resolution for Intuit customers. This is a hands-on, detail-focused position with significant autonomy and impact on service quality and compliance.

Responsibilities- Handle full-cycle payroll tax case work for assigned accounts, including tax filings and payments across jurisdictions
- Independently research and resolve complex State and Federal payroll tax notices (balance-due, deposit discrepancies, SUI rate changes, mismatches)
- Prepare agency responses with supporting documents and submit within deadlines
- Prepare and own amended payroll tax returns (Form 941-X and state equivalents)
- Support payroll correction workflows by identifying error sources, quantifying tax impact, and documenting audit trails
- Manage personal WIP queue by SLA, flag aging cases, and document case activity from start to closure
- Perform trend analysis to identify process or system deficiencies
- Contribute to SOP and KB updates, flag outdated content and document solutions
- Collaborate with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams; mentor TP1 staff and seek coaching from senior staff and managers
Key requirements- 2-3+ years of hands-on payroll tax experience with focus on notice resolution, amendments, and error correction across multiple states
- Working knowledge of IRS and state notices; ability to identify notice type and determine resolution path
- Experience resolving State and Federal payroll tax notices independently (balance-due, penalties, SUI rate changes, deposit mismatches)
- Understanding of tax payment and filing regulations; knowledge of federal and state employee vs. employer tax responsibilities
- Experience preparing amended Federal (Form 941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across diverse jurisdictions
- Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law (FICA, FUTA, FITW, payment schedules, penalties)
- Multi-state payroll tax expertise including reciprocal agreements and local compliance
- Proficiency with at least one payroll platform and case management systems (e.g., Salesforce)
- Excel/Google Sheets skills (VLOOKUP, pivots, reconciliation)
- Strong written and verbal communication with agencies and thorough case documentation
- Associate's or Bachelor's in Accounting/Business/Finance preferred; equivalent experience accepted
- FPC required; CPP preferred (4+ years) and active CPP pursuit
