Payroll Tax Specialist

Overview

In this role you will manage payroll tax compliance and related filings across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate withholding, timely deposits, and complete reconciliations, supporting multi-state payroll environments. You'll handle audits, notices, and regulatory changes to keep payroll compliant and efficient. This contract position offers an opportunity to impact accuracy, risk reduction, and compliance operations at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Process and review payroll tax filings and payments per regulations
  • Ensure accurate payroll tax withholding, reporting, and employer calculations
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare quarterly and annual payroll tax filings including W-2s
  • Monitor tax notices and coordinate with tax agencies to resolve issues
  • Maintain payroll tax records and supporting documentation
  • Support payroll processing by validating tax calculations and deductions
  • Perform payroll tax account reconciliations and prepare journal entries
  • Assist with payroll audits and provide documentation to auditors
  • Monitor tax law changes to maintain compliance
  • Collaborate with Payroll, HR, Finance, and Accounting to resolve tax issues
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll tax processes and controls
Key requirements
  • 3+ years of payroll tax, payroll accounting, or payroll compliance experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Experience with payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and compliance reporting
  • Knowledge of payroll processes, garnishments, deductions, and wage reporting
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
