Overview In this role you will lead structural bridge engineering efforts within the Mid-Atlantic South District Transportation Team, guiding multi-site projects from concept through construction. You will apply high-level engineering methods to deliver safe, durable infrastructure aligned with client objectives, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals. You'll collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to develop plans, assess risks, and implement future-ready solutions that support transportation networks.

Responsibilities- Provide high-level guidance for data collection, surveys, GIS, and subsurface information to support project development and design
- Apply advanced structural/civil engineering techniques across concept, design, procurement, and operation phases
- Prepare construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and safety/phasing plans; coordinate with owners, sub-consultants, and clients
- Manage design, rehabilitation, and remediation of infrastructure ensuring durability and safety under environmental/loads
- Develop and integrate new technologies, modeling, and materials to enhance safety and functionality
- Lead cross-functional teams (engineers, architects, planners) across multiple projects, tracking budgets, hours, and resources
- Review and approve infrastructure design plans to ensure code compliance and data integrity
- Create data visualizations and comprehensive technical reports presenting findings and recommendations
- Perform site investigations and risk assessments with mitigation planning; develop HASPs
- Engage with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients to drive progress and compliance
- Stay current with structural engineering practices and uphold QA/QC and ethical standards
- Support business development and proposal activities through collaboration with stakeholders
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with 7-10 years of relevant experience
- Professional Engineer license
- Strong understanding of infrastructure planning, design, and construction management
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and hazardous substance/greenhouse gas reduction
- In-depth knowledge of structural and civil construction laws, codes, and compliance
- Proven ability to perform technical computations from plans/specifications and apply regulations
- Ability to plan inspections and investigations and communicate results effectively
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; confident with engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to lead junior staff with QA/QC discipline
