Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor - Construction Management

Overview

In this role you will lead cost management for a portfolio of large-scale projects in the Phoenix region, acting as a primary client interface. You will drive value through cost planning, estimating, and change management across the project lifecycle, collaborating with design teams and general contractors. You'll mentor talent, uphold best practices, and contribute to delivering high-profile, complex facilities. This is an opportunity to shape cost strategies and support clients through major construction programs.

Responsibilities
  • Estimate and negotiate changes across the construction lifecycle
  • Develop and present cost plans; update cost estimates at design milestones
  • Collaborate with design teams and GC to prepare estimates and reconcile data
  • Communicate with owners, PMs, and contractors to gather status for cost updates
  • Coordinate sources of cost information and participate in VE sessions
  • Manage cost checks, valuations, and post-contract cost variances
  • Prepare cost reports and ensure timely final accounts
  • Provide commercial input to design optioneering and value engineering
  • Lead cost auditing, cost validation processes, and contingency management
  • Coach and mentor team members; demonstrate leadership in delivery and client service
  • Utilize internal systems to monitor margins, forecasts, and financial reporting
  • Implement delivery methodologies for consistent client outcomes
  • SOX controls adherence where applicable
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years in cost management within construction
  • RICS accreditation preferred or in progress
  • Experience leading cost management on medium to large, complex projects
  • Strong communication and client-facing capabilities
  • Knowledge of procurement routes, value management, and value engineering
  • Construction consultancy experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Experience with cost estimation, cost planning, negotiations, and valuations
