Overview

As Executive Producer, you will lead The Interview, shaping editorial direction and overseeing a cross functional team to produce high profile conversations. You'll drive audience growth across Times platforms, collaborate with hosts and newsroom partners, and ensure editorial quality from concept to packaging. The role combines creative leadership with strategic oversight in a rapidly evolving media landscape, rooted in The Times' mission of independent, trustworthy journalism. You will report to the editor in chief of The New York Times Magazine.

Responsibilities
  • Set editorial goals and creative strategy for The Interview
  • Oversee episode structure, pacing, tone, and quality
  • Manage production workflow across multiple episodes
  • Book compelling guests with hosts and booker; solicit pitches
  • Own expressions of the show across video, audio, digital; coordinate with Audience team
  • Shape visual identity with video operations and Shows team
  • Collaborate with Magazine's photo, fact-checking and copy departments
  • Cultivate newsroom relationships for interview prep insights
  • Lead masthead communications on high profile interviews
  • Manage and mentor a team of producers; provide feedback
  • Analyze audience trends with the audience team and translate insights into recommendations
  • Foster a culture of experimentation and adaptation to changing publishing landscape
  • Support journalistic independence and NYT mission
Key requirements
  • 15 years of experience leading editorial teams
  • Significant experience running a host driven conversational show
  • Proven track record with high profile interviews in culture and politics
  • Strong editing skills for episode structuring, pacing, line edits
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Comfort interpreting platform analytics to inform editorial decisions
