Overview

As Senior Property Accountant you will own the financial management and reporting for assigned properties within a leading REIT. You will drive the quarterly close, prepare GAAP and tax financial statements, and support audits while partnering with property management and cross-functional teams. You'll analyze leases, budgets, and variances to ensure accurate, compliant reporting and timely financial insights that inform portfolio decisions. This role blends technical accounting with strategic property-level analysis in a dynamic market.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the quarterly close process and prepare schedules and audit binders
  • Oversee accounts billing accuracy for rent and charges per lease and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare quarterly GAAP and tax financial statements with supporting schedules
  • Explain revenue/expense variances with property management in quarterly reviews
  • Develop financial reports and schedules for lender/third-party requirements
  • Analyze client operating and real estate tax escalations and true-ups monthly
  • Audit databases (Lease Tracking, Rent Roll, Lease Abstract) for assigned portfolio
  • Coordinate with property management for annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts
  • Collaborate with Lease Administration, AR, AP, Tax, Finance, Legal to obtain statements
  • Prepare depreciation, reconciliations, and external compliance reports
  • Provide high-level service to VP, Regional Controllers and others
  • Review and interpret leases and complex transactions for financial reporting
  • Compile documentation for client audits
Key requirements
  • BA/BS in Business Administration or Accounting
  • 1-3 years accounting experience required; 3-5 years strongly preferred
  • Experience in commercial real estate accounting preferred
  • Strong MS Excel proficiency
  • Organizational skills with ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a team
  • JD Edwards accounting software desirable
