Senior Sustainability Scientist

Overview

In this role you will translate life cycle assessment and carbon accounting theory into scalable, repeatable methodologies for cloud hardware. You will lead cross-functional teams to tackle sustainability challenges, acting as an applied-science advisor for carbon and waste workstreams. You will design governance for LCA and data validation, steward sustainability data, document rigorous methods, and build automation to accelerate processes. This position sits at the intersection of strategy, data, and operations to enable a trusted, data-driven sustainability program across Microsoft cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Translate LCA and carbon accounting theory into scalable methodologies for cloud hardware portfolios
  • Lead large cross-functional v-teams to resolve sustainability problems and deliver measurable outcomes
  • Serve as a trusted applied-science expert for sustainability decision-making across carbon and waste workstreams
  • Design and operationalize sustainability methodologies (LCA governance and validation) with governance approvals
  • Act as a data steward validating sustainability data and communicating impacts
  • Document work, experiments, methodology decisions, and validation outcomes for rigor and audit readiness
  • Develop and scale automation for repeatable sustainability processes to free capacity for strategy and execution
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's or higher in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of related experience; or Master's with 3+ years; or Doctorate with 1+ year; or equivalent experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft security and background check requirements
  • Experience in statistics, predictive analytics or research
