Overview In this role you will design AI-native systems that translate elite legal expertise into reliable, repeatable, machine-executable outputs. You will re-engineer workflows for AI-first execution and translate practice group playbooks into prompts, schemas, and decision logic. You will codify tacit knowledge into machine-readable formats and curate reference packs to support few-shot prompting and evaluation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to protect sensitive information while delivering scalable, auditable AI workflows. This role combines law, software thinking, and innovation to advance Latham's AI-enabled legal services.

Responsibilities- Re-engineer manual workflows for AI-first execution, determine work allocation, review gates, and exception handling
- Translate playbooks, checklists, negotiation positions, and house style into prompts, schemas, decision trees, and rule sets for AI execution
- Codify tacit knowledge of senior practitioners into machine-readable forms (fallback positions, terms, negotiation flexibility, drafting conventions)
- Author schema specifications and JSON Schemas for deal types, clause libraries, document attributes, and matter metadata
- Curate exemplar matters and work product into reference packs to drive few-shot prompting, fine-tuning, and evaluation
- Protect and maintain highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and proprietary information
Key requirements- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Bachelor's degree in law, computer science, information systems, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of substantive legal practice experience at a law firm or in-house legal department with ownership of complex matters
- Minimum 2 years of full-time experience as a Legal Engineer, Legal Knowledge Engineer, Legal Workflow Engineer, Innovation Attorney, or comparable role
- Hands-on experience with AI platforms designing or evaluating law-related workflows or agents
- Fluency in authoring, evaluating, and iterating prompts for large language models in production legal workflows
- Proficiency reading and writing JSON, JSON Schema, YAML, and Markdown; understanding schemas and conditional logic
