Counsel - Insurance Regulatory and Compliance

Overview

In this role you provide strategic legal guidance to business leaders on property and casualty matters in admitted and surplus lines. You will balance legal risk with commercial objectives in a regulated environment and support regulatory filings, exams, and complex (re)insurance arrangements. You'll partner with cross-functional teams to mitigate risk while enabling strategic initiatives and new products. This is a chance to shape compliance and governance for a growing specialty insurer within a structured, values-driven culture. You will work with a collaborative Legal and Compliance team to ensure consistent, practical legal advice and exceptional service.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel on insurance regulatory compliance, market conduct exams, licensing, and consumer complaint responses
  • Support preparation, review, and submission of regulatory filings (rate and form, holding company, withdrawal plans, notices, investments)
  • Advise on legal/regulatory implications of strategic initiatives, new products, and operational changes
  • Draft and negotiate intercompany reinsurance, ceded and assumed reinsurance, MGA, and claims administration agreements
  • Conduct regulatory research and monitor developments across jurisdictions
  • Maintain knowledge of company operations and legal documents
  • Collaborate with supporting functions to mitigate identified legal risks
  • Provide practical, strategic, solutions-driven legal advice and high-quality customer service
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant insurance compliance and regulatory experience
  • Active and in good standing with a U.S. bar
  • Strong foundation in insurance law and ability to interpret regulations and case law
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
