Overview In this Director of Accounting role, you will lead accounting operations for four entities and partner with the CFO to strengthen financial processes. You guide accurate, timely reporting and provide strategic financial support to executive leadership and the board. You will shape budgeting, forecasting, and audit/compliance programs while promoting accountability and workflow discipline. This position offers the chance to build and mentor a high-performing team within a mission-driven organization that supports community programming and grant-funded initiatives. You will work cross-functionally to drive sustainable financial health and scaling across the nonprofit portfolio.
Responsibilities- Direct accounting operations across four entities (GL, AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, cash management)
- Oversee month-end and year-end close, financial statement prep, management reporting, and variance analysis
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for executive leadership and board
- Partner with CFO and department leaders on budgets, forecasts, cash flow planning, and long-term strategy
- Oversee audits, tax filings, regulatory reporting, internal controls, risk management, and compliance
- Manage grant accounting, restricted funds, and reporting for funded programs
- Streamline workflows, strengthen procedures, establish deadlines and accountability
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff with performance oversight
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems and reporting processes
Key requirements- Active CPA license
- Minimum 3 years of nonprofit accounting experience
- Proven experience leading an accounting department or team
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, month-end close, reconciliations, internal controls
- Experience managing accounting across multiple entities
- Demonstrated ability to improve workflows and hold teams accountable
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, audits, compliance, and financial reporting
- Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills
- NetSuite experience is a strong plus
