Overview In this role you will manage revenue-focused accounting for a higher education or nonprofit organization. You will support accurate financial records, revenue recognition and compliance across funding sources, ensuring timely closes and audit-ready documentation. You'll work with multiple departments to improve revenue reporting and control standards, shaping how funds are tracked and reported in line with donor terms and grants. Responsibilities- Record and maintain revenue-related accounting entries (receivables, deferrals, GL transactions)
- Review revenue balances, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies
- Evaluate diverse income sources (tuition, grants, donor funding, service revenue, contracts, fees) for proper accounting
- Apply accounting guidance and internal policies to revenue timing and classification
- Track restricted vs. unrestricted funding and ensure donor/grant compliance
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes with reconciliations and schedules
- Prepare audit-ready workpapers and support materials for audits and reporting
- Collaborate with development, sponsored programs, student finance, and grants teams to improve revenue reporting accuracy
- Examine agreements to determine appropriate recording of grants, contracts, and contributions
- Strengthen internal controls and suggest process improvements for revenue accounting efficiency
