Overview As a Land Use & Zoning Associate Attorney, you will advise clients on land use, zoning, redevelopment, and real estate development strategies from conception to build-out. You will work with developers, municipalities, and public entities, handling permitting, filings, and hearings, while providing transactional and litigation support. The role blends technical land use work with drafting and advocacy within New Jersey law and local redevelopment initiatives, including PILOT agreements. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to advance project approvals and cultivate client relationships. Responsibilities- Advise on land use, zoning, redevelopment, and development strategies from inception to build-out
- Prepare and file permit applications, site plans, subdivisions, and rezoning/variance filings
- Represent clients before planning and zoning boards, municipal councils, and redevelopment agencies
- Draft and negotiate redevelopment and PILOT agreements, easements, covenants, and related documents
- Conduct land use due diligence and title review to identify constraints and permit needs
- Provide litigation support and handle administrative appeals and enforcement actions in NJ
- Coordinate with engineers, planners, architects, and environmental consultants on application packages
- Manage case files, deadlines, and client communications throughout approvals and appeals process
- Support business development through proposals, client presentations, and municipal outreach
Key requirements- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; admission to the New Jersey Bar
- 5+ years of experience in land use, zoning, redevelopment, or real estate development law; municipal practice preferred
- Experience with redevelopment matters, site plans, subdivisions, variances, and rezonings
- Familiarity with permitting processes, due diligence, and drafting of redevelopment + PILOT documents
- Experience supporting or handling land use litigation and administrative appeals in New Jersey
- Strong written and oral advocacy; comfortable presenting to boards and negotiating with municipal stakeholders
- Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams (planners, engineers, environmental consultants)
- Excellent organizational skills and client-service orientation; ability to manage multiple matters independently
