Overview In this role, you underwrite and price surplus lines commercial property and casualty business within the Idaho territory, collaborating with producers and an underwriting assistant. You assess risk, determine pricing and terms, and decide on reinsurance needs for complex accounts. You will mentor junior underwriters, build strong producer and reinsurer relationships, and explore new products and coverage forms. The position offers growth within a values-driven, relationship-focused team that supports independent agents and communities. Responsibilities- Solicit, underwrite and price surplus lines commercial property and casualty business with producers and an underwriting assistant
- Assess risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions for complex accounts
- Analyze information and exposures to support risk decisions
- Achieve production and loss ratio goals within the assigned region
- Determine need for and secure appropriate reinsurance on individual accounts
- Mentor and train underwriters and underwriting assistants
- Develop relationships with producers and reinsurers
- Research new products and coverage forms
- Travel within the assigned territory, including overnight stays
Key requirements- Property and casualty underwriting experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and decision-making abilities
- Analytical, negotiating, and effective verbal communication skills
- Ability to build positive working relationships with team members and agents
- Valid driver's license and MVR background check
- Bachelor's degree or extensive relevant excess and surplus lines underwriting experience
- 5+ years of commercial lines P&C experience required
- ASLI or CPCU designations preferred
- Carrier background candidates preferred (training provided in Cincinnati)
