Overview As Tax Supervisor, you lead tax compliance and consulting for a diverse client mix, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, and regulatory adherence. You guide a tax team, mentor staff, and collaborate with leaders to identify planning opportunities and process improvements. You drive efficient engagement execution and client communications while upholding professional standards. This role offers meaningful impact through tax planning, risk management, and continuous improvement within a collaborative firm.
Responsibilities- Oversee federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S-corporations, C-corporations, and trusts to ensure accuracy and timely filing.
- Manage a client portfolio as the primary contact for tax planning, engagement execution, and communications.
- Coach and mentor tax staff; allocate work, set priorities, and monitor deadlines to meet deliverables.
- Perform technical tax research, interpret laws, and advise staff and clients on positions and planning strategies.
- Coordinate tax projections, estimated payments, and year-end planning to minimize liabilities and uncover opportunities.
- Improve internal processes, templates, and checklists to boost efficiency and quality control.
- Support Tax Managers and Partners with budgeting, staffing forecasts, and review of billing proposals.
- Interface with state and federal agencies on notices, audits, and examinations as needed.
- Uphold professional standards, documentation, and confidentiality; participate in business development and client meetings.
Key requirements- Bachelor in Accounting (Masters or CPA-related coursework preferred).
- Active CPA license preferred; Enrolled Agent (EA) considered a strong plus.
- 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with hands-on preparation and review of individual, partnership, corporate, and fiduciary returns.
- Prior supervisory experience with training, mentoring, and staff management.
- Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state tax compliance, accounting methods, and tax research tools.
- Proficiency with tax software (UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSystem fx or similar), tax research databases, and advanced Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience as a generalist handling diverse client types and industries; Tax Manager or Supervisor experience preferred.
