Overview In this on-site role, you will conduct comprehensive underwriting for affordable multifamily loans across Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Private Placement programs. You will work within the Commercial Mortgage Group to deliver risk-aware, well-underwritten transactions and support cross-functional teams toward strategic goals. You'll apply LIHTC and bond financing knowledge to assess viability, ensure compliance, and mentor others in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities- Underwrite affordable housing loans in accordance with policies and program requirements
- Lead underwriting teams to meet client and team expectations
- Review third-party reports for programmatic compliance and provide feedback
- Conduct property inspections and market analysis
- Assess construction budgets for forward commitments
- Collaborate with origination, closing, and servicing teams to ensure agency guidelines compliance
- Escape issues promptly and escalate when necessary
- Complete compliance tasks to minimize risk exposure
- Maintain internal underwriting and deal management systems for data integrity
- Provide programmatic expertise for Agency and Private Placement transactions
Key requirements- Five+ years of underwriting affordable housing loans (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Private Placement)
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear, professional transmission of complex information
