Overview In this role you lead signal system design and testing for transit and rail projects, helping clients deliver safe, reliable operations. You will work with a world-class Signals Team to develop ATCS, interlocking, and signaling solutions across field and office settings in the San Diego/Orange County area. You'll supervise testing, commissioning, and construction drawings, coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet budget and schedule. This position offers the chance to shape signaling capabilities for complex rail environments and contribute to public transportation reliability. Responsibilities- Design signal systems for transit and rail projects (ATCS, interlocking, block signals, parametric drawings)
- Produce construction plans and installation drawings, site plans, and temporary interface designs
- Review circuit designs for failures and compliance with technical specs
- Write test and commissioning specifications, procedures, and test plans
- Use simulators (SATs or Vital-Sim) to pretest logic
- Lead a team of signalmen in testing and commissioning of new signal systems
- Coordinate field work and collaboration with client teams
- Ensure projects stay on track and within budget
Key requirements- 10-20 years of experience in a Railroad Signals environment
- In-depth knowledge of signaling principles for automatic and cab signaling systems
- Understanding of Boolean algebra as it applies to signal logic programs
- Knowledge of Positive Train Control (PTC) systems and related regulations
- Progressive experience in Signal System design (minimum 10 years)
- Ability to obtain or hold Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (preferred)
- BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering/Engineering Technology (preferred)
- Master's or other advanced degree (preferred)
- Direct experience working at a rail or transit agency (preferred)
- Willingness to perform field work in the San Diego/Orange County area
