Overview In this role you will lead mechanical estimates for complex projects, translating bid documents into accurate, timely proposals. You'll work with cross-functional teams to validate pricing, scope, and delivery strategy while developing value-engineering options. The position focuses on designing competitive bids for HVAC, piping, and mechanical systems and ensuring a smooth transition from estimate to field execution. You will influence project outcomes by combining deep estimating expertise with strong client and vendor relationships.
Responsibilities- Review bid documents, drawings, and specs to understand scope
- Solicit and manage subcontractor and vendor quotations
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using on-screen estimating software
- Develop comprehensive estimates aligned with bid deadlines
- Collaborate with estimators, operations, and internal teams
- Participate in bid-day reviews to validate pricing and strategy
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals for scope, compliance, and schedule
- Develop value engineering options aligned with client goals
- Prepare clear scope narratives to support proposals
- Provide post-award support to transition from estimate to execution
- Manage multiple bid schedules and maintain proposal deadlines
- Identify project requirements and cost drivers with limited data
- Balance high-level understanding with attention to detail to ensure client satisfaction
Key requirements- 10+ years of mechanical estimating experience (industrial, HVAC, and/or plumbing)
- Proven experience estimating process piping projects
- Knowledge of Design-Build and Plan & Spec delivery methods
- Proficiency with estimating software, on-screen takeoff tools, and spreadsheets
- Ability to produce accurate, competitive, timely estimates with minimal information
- Strong understanding of cost structures for Design-Build projects
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, vendors, subs, and stakeholders
