Overview As Employment Counsel at Brex, you partner with the People team to provide practical, business-minded employment guidance for our global workforce. You will help shape policies, manage disputes, and oversee regulatory inquiries while coordinating with outside counsel. Responsibilities- Provide business-minded legal guidance to the People team on day-to-day employment issues (performance, terminations, recruiting, leaves, accommodations, compensation, wage and hour)
- Support policy development and implementation governing Brex employees and contingent workers
- Manage employment-related complaints, disputes, investigations, and regulatory responses
- Coordinate with outside counsel to ensure efficient, value-driven support
- Identify employment- and contingent worker-related risks and propose practical mitigations
- Research and analyze employment laws across U.S. locations and Brex international offices; monitor developments
- Assist in developing and delivering employment-related manager training
- Respond to subpoenas, records requests, and other information orders
Key requirements- 5+ years of experience counseling on employment law matters
- Experience partnering with People/HR as their day-to-day legal advisor
- Strong organizational and multi-project management skills
- Practical, problem-solving mindset in a fast-paced environment
- Team player with collaborative approach to drive results
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills for non-lawyers
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership in good standing (U.S. state)
