Overview As an Estimator (Purchasing) for Kokosing Transportation, you prepare and coordinate complete estimate packages for subcontractors and material vendors across our Ohio region. You will tackle a range of bids from highway rehab to mega-projects, balancing cost, risk, and schedule considerations. You'll work with estimating staff, operations, and industry partners to secure competitive pricing and compliant scopes. Responsibilities- Review project documents and specs to define estimate scope
- Solicit subcontractor and material vendor pricing
- Analyze quotes and input pricing into estimating software
- Maintain cost-model records with historical prices
- Coordinate subcontracted work to cover full bid scope
- Identify project risks and help develop mitigation plans
- Identify value engineering opportunities for competitive advantage
- Assist in writing and reviewing subcontracts and purchase orders
- Coordinate with operations to resolve vendor/subcontractor issues
- Develop plans to meet diversity participation goals and document outreach
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors and industry partners
- Participate in owner, contractor, and industry events
- Perform additional assignments as directed by supervisor
Key requirements- Experience in estimating, engineering, or procurement for heavy civil construction (preferred)
- Familiarity with construction plans and specs
- Ability to read engineering documentation and understand contracts and terminology (preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet management
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
- Experience with cost modeling and subcontract/purchase order workflows (preferred)
- Proficiency with HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software (preferred)
