Job description

Overview

As a Surveyor with ABS Bureau, you will perform surveys of classed vessels and marine structures to ensure compliance with ABS Rules and relevant safety and environmental regulations. You will work under supervision, developing expertise in inspections, reporting, and client engagement at ports and manufacturers. The role emphasizes applying regulatory principles and delivering technically accurate surveys and documentation. This position offers growth through progressively challenging assignments and direct impact on safe, compliant operations at sea.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, or marine structures for classification and statutory compliance
  • Prepare accurate, timely reports of inspections and surveys
  • Engage with clients to resolve issues within area of expertise
  • Maintain survey files and documentation in an orderly, up-to-date manner
  • Develop skills for administration of office procedures and monitoring port performance
  • Progressively undertake technically challenging work to deepen understanding of field operations and procedures
Key requirements
  • Qualification from a tertiary institution in engineering or physical science (minimum 2 years) or marine/nautical institution with seagoing experience as a certificated officer
  • Proficiency in English commensurate with certification scope
  • Appropriate certification/licenses in areas of specialization may be required
  • Ability to read engineering plans and understand shipbuilding and vessel operations
  • Ability to perform surveys in prescribed formats
  • Knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions
  • Familiarity with computer programs or software relevant to job responsibilities
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Customer-focused and collaborative, with willingness to travel to survey sites
