Lead First Line Supervisor

Overview

As Lead First Line Supervisor, you direct a team to meet operational targets and standards, driving safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance. You'll lead problem solving, standard work, and continuous improvement initiatives with a 10-20 person team in a 24/7 manufacturing setting. You'll partner with team leaders and peers to optimize processes and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This role offers hands-on leadership in a unionized environment with clear impact on department performance and morale.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise direct reports to achieve assigned tasks
  • Plan procedures and budgets within the collective bargaining framework
  • Lead problem identification, solving, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Engage team leaders to improve processes and performance
  • Manage performance and adherence to safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost standards
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Interview, select, and train team leaders and employees
  • Create a positive environment to drive morale and performance
  • Communicate with team leaders and shifts to coordinate productivity
  • Act as escalation point for issues affecting productivity
  • Explain and apply AdvanSix Operating System principles
  • Conduct performance appraisals and feedback
  • Drive standardized work creation and audits
  • Decide on deviations from procedures with safety and environmental considerations
  • Manage and adjust work schedules
  • Share best-in-class manufacturing processes
  • Lead 5S activities to maintain area standards
  • Foster a PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) culture for continuous improvement
  • Encourage employee suggestions and rapid problem solving
  • Execute escalation as needed
Key requirements
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience (manufacturing, industrial, or chemical plant preferred)
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in a 24/7 operation and rotating shifts preferred
  • Knowledge of chemical process operations preferred
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred
  • Strong safety commitment
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to motivate and lead teams, resolve conflicts, and work independently
  • Ability to initiate and implement change
