Overview

In this Staff Software Engineer role, you will shape the architecture and technical strategy for high-traffic, member-facing systems within Chime's Growth Engineering, focusing on the Early Stage Experience. You will partner with Product, Design, Analytics, and Data to drive measurable growth outcomes and build scalable, reliable experiments at speed. You'll leverage AI and LLM capabilities to boost productivity and personalize member experiences, while mentoring engineers and elevating engineering practices. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence product direction and contribute to a mission-driven fintech environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement high-impact, member-facing systems across the Growth stack
  • Set the technical vision for scalable, low-latency, high-traffic systems that meet reliability standards
  • Lead experimentation strategy and rapid test-and-learn cycles without compromising durability
  • Identify and resolve systemic performance, availability, and conversion-related reliability challenges
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Analytics, and Data to shape product direction and ensure technical feasibility
  • Mentor senior engineers and promote consistent quality, architecture, and code craftsmanship
  • Represent Chime externally through recruiting, open source, talks, and community engagement
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Deep understanding of system design, service boundaries, and product-engineering tradeoffs in high-traffic consumer systems
  • Track record of delivering measurable business and engineering impact, especially in growth/activation/consumer products
  • Experience with experimentation: test design, instrumentation, analysis, and iteration
  • Ability to influence across teams and lead through influence rather than formal authority
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in a fast-paced, product-focused environment; fintech experience a plus
