Overview As an R&D Tax Credit Director you will lead and deliver credit consulting across industries, acting as a technical resource on federal and state credits. You will mentor teams, grow client relationships, and identify opportunities to broaden services. The role combines technical analysis with client-facing leadership in a fast-paced advisory environment. You will help shape the Tax Credits practice and contribute to thought leadership and business development.

Responsibilities- Lead and manage R&D Tax Credit studies across industries, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Advise on IRC Section 41, Treasury Regulations, and related guidance
- Identify qualifying activities and expenditures for credits
- Scope engagements, plan projects, and allocate resources
- Conduct technical interviews and evaluate activities within Section 41
- Oversee project narratives and supporting documentation
- Lead quantitative analyses of qualified expenses (wages, supplies, contract research)
- Review calculations, workpapers, and deliverables for technical accuracy
- Perform tax research and communicate conclusions to clients and teams
- Advise on documentation and substantiation for credit positions
- Assist with examinations and responses to tax authorities
- Monitor developments in regulations affecting credits and share with clients
- Collaborate with Partners and service lines to identify opportunities
- Develop client relationships and mentor staff
- Manage multiple engagements, budgets, timelines, and expectations
- Support business development, referrals, and proposals
- Contribute to thought leadership, training, and client alerts
- Address energy-related credits and collaborate on state tax matters
Key requirements- 10+ years of progressive tax experience with emphasis on R&D Tax Credits
- Bachelor in Accounting; MST a plus; CPA or EA designation
- Proven leadership of complex R&D studies from scoping to delivery
- Experience evaluating qualified activities and expenses across industries
- Strong understanding of four-part test for qualified research
- Experience interviewing engineers, software developers, scientists, and other professionals
- Knowledge of software development, engineering, manufacturing, or similar processes preferred
- Experience with IRS/state examinations and substantiation of credit positions
- Strong client service, relationship management, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple engagements, budgets, and deadlines
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and tax/data-analysis applications
