Overview

In this role you bridge equipment operations and safety to protect personnel, equipment, and the environment. You work closely with mechanics, welders, technicians, drivers, and supervisors to implement practical safety programs in a heavy equipment maintenance context. You lead safety observations, risk assessments, training, and incident investigations to drive continuous improvement. This position offers growth into a specialized safety leadership path within a hands-on, field-focused Equipment Division.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and improve safety programs in collaboration with Equipment Division leadership and the corporate safety team
  • Serve as a primary safety resource for mechanics, welders, technicians, lube technicians, drivers, and supervisors
  • Conduct safety observations, audits, inspections, and risk assessments in shop and field environments
  • Develop and deliver division-specific safety training (Orientation, compliance, etc.)
  • Support DOT compliance efforts and driver qualification programs
  • Assist with incident, injury, vehicle, and near-miss investigations including root cause analyses and corrective actions (Learning Teams)
  • Facilitate Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for maintenance, fabrication, and repair activities
  • Evaluate maintenance operations and propose practical safety, compliance, and efficiency improvements
  • Assist with environmental compliance, hazardous material management, chemical tracking, and waste disposal
  • Travel to project sites to support field operations, audits, and compliance (0-15% travel)
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices applicable to fleet and heavy equipment operations
  • Provide safety performance updates and recommendations to Equipment Division leadership
  • Consult with management regarding Equipment Division safety performance
Key requirements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of heavy equipment maintenance and repair
  • Experience or background in roles such as mechanic, technician, welder, fabricator, maintenance supervisor, or equipment manager
  • Bachelor's degree in safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred; relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in safety, maintenance, fleet operations, equipment management, or related field
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, welding, fabrication, and shop safety practices
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and root cause analysis
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations and fleet compliance
  • OSHA 510, OSHA 511, CHST, CSP, SMS, or related certifications preferred
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence employees at all levels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software systems
