Insurance Coverage Policy Wording Specialist - GenStar

Overview

In this role you will shape commercial lines policy wording across ISO, admitted and surplus markets to support product development and profitability. You will collaborate with underwriting and legal teams to ensure wording aligns with underwriting intent and business goals. You will mentor underwriters on policy language and stay ahead of market developments. This opportunity lets you impact how coverage is drafted and deployed across our specialty lines in a collaborative, growth minded environment.

Responsibilities
  • Drafts and refines P&C policy forms, endorsements and manuscript wordings across commercial lines
  • Advises on coverage language to align with underwriting intent and profitability
  • Identifies deviations from standard forms and proposes wording alternatives
  • Provides guidance to underwriters, management and others on policy wording decisions
  • Mentors underwriters on policy wording issues
  • Keeps current on ISO developments, market trends and competitor forms
  • Collaborates with Underwriters, Claims, Regulatory Specialists and Legal to improve wordings
  • Develops and implements Admitted Form Filings with underwriting and regulatory units
  • Manages workload and deadlines to support timely delivery of coverage documents
  • Sets challenging goals and supports product initiatives
Key requirements
  • College degree required
  • 5+ years in coverage-related roles or as Underwriter/Claims/Legal with relevant experience
  • Extensive knowledge of surplus lines and admitted insurance standards
  • Strong knowledge of optimizing policy wording for lines of business
  • Reinsurance contract wording experience a plus
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Strong technology skills with Word, Adobe, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook
  • AI/LLM experience a plus
  • Active contributor potential to ISO Panels or trade associations a plus
