Overview In this Principal Engineer role, you lead cross-functional teams to tackle complex DG interconnection and electrical engineering challenges with broad business impact. You contribute to departmental and divisional strategy, represent the company in industry associations, and mentor engineers. You bring deep DG expertise and stay current with leading techniques through professional engagement. You are recognized as an expert and communicate effectively with regulators and public entities, driving technical leadership and change.
Responsibilities- Lead special projects solving unique, broad-impact problems and develop innovative design concepts
- Resolve Distributed Generation interconnection issues (customer generators, PV, fuel cells) with broad perspective
- Review and maintain drawings; assemble documentation for complex assignments
- Act as recognized DG interconnection expert; propose best practices and process improvements
- Lead teams, mentor engineers, and present to regulatory/public entities when needed
- Facilitate DG interconnection project teams; manage cross-functional resources
- Design systems to address non-standard problems; apply standards and UI policies
- Represent Engineering on projects and task forces; develop business cases and strategic project plans
- Forecast, plan, and monitor budgets; manage resources and schedules
- Provide technical leadership on complex projects with wide business impact
- Mentor and develop team technical skills; liaise with contractors on policy and standards
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Support strategy development and execution for divisional and company-wide initiatives
Key requirements- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Professional Engineering License required
- Strong knowledge of planning, operations, engineering design, analytics, and business context
- Experience reviewing/approving engineering work for standards and compliance
- Understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory standards
