Overview

In this Senior Transportation Project Accountant role, you support HDR's Transportation Business Group by delivering detailed project controls analysis and robust financial reporting. You will work with cross-functional teams to manage budgets, baselines, and schedules, ensuring contracts and cost data align with project goals. You'll influence key decisions through accurate cost control and earned value insights, contributing to safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions. Responsibilities
  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on project or program status within an established system of project controls
  • Analyze and report on cost control, cost estimation, earned value management (EVM), projections, and variance analysis
  • Manage client invoicing, collections management and project budgeting autonomously
  • Maintain and administer contract documentation, including fee and budget entries
  • Coordinate project accounting system within the department and ensure compliance with contractual requirements
  • Support technical project management activities and advise on project controls (WBS, schedule, budget/cost)
  • Serve as central point of contact to internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with customer interactions, documenting reviews and presenting management status
  • Analyze cost estimates, baseline budgets, and monthly variance reports; validate schedules and critical path analyses
  • Mentor junior project accountants as needed
  • Complete tasks autonomously and perform other duties as needed
Key requirements
  • Associate degree in a closely related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience; advanced degree may offset years
  • Understanding of project controls tools for building baselines, schedules, and cost plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and collaborate in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
  • Active participation in an employee-owned culture
