Overview As a Senior IP Counsel at Ecolab, you will protect the company's patent portfolio and trade secrets while guiding the business on IP matters. You will be a key member of the Legal team, shaping cross functional strategies around energy, digital, and controls technologies. You'll address patent clearance, prosecution, and enforcement, and support M&A-related due diligence and post-acquisition integration. You'll also develop global IP training and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to manage risk and enable growth.
Responsibilities- Manage global patent clearance, prosecution, and enforcement for energy, digital, and controls technologies
- Advise senior leadership on critical patent and trade secret matters, including protection, enforcement, and risk mitigation
- Lead patent-related due diligence for M&A and post acquisition integration
- Collaborate with internal and external teams on negotiations and drafting of licenses and other agreements
- Develop and deliver global training on patents, trade secrets, and IP-related agreements
Key requirements- 7+ years of experience in patent law with at least 4 years in law firm practice handling global prosecution and portfolio strategy
- Registered patent attorney with USPTO
- JD degree with strong academic performance
- Chemistry and equipment related education and/or technical experience
- Strong knowledge of US and international patent procedures, prosecution, clearance, and enforcement
- Experience managing patent paralegals and directing foreign counsel
- Ability to build relationships with business leaders and communicate effectively
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage high-volume tasks with competing deadlines
- Resourcefulness and tact in handling requests across organizational levels
