Senior Associate University Attorney and Privacy Officer

As Senior Associate General Counsel & Privacy Officer, you will lead the university's privacy program and ensure compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, GLBA and related laws. You will advise senior leadership on transactional, data governance, and privacy matters, and coordinate with clinical, academic, and research units. You'll build policies and respond to incidents, while partnering with IT and external regulators. This is a mission-driven role at a major public university with broad impact across campuses.

• Provide leadership for privacy compliance across the university and oversee data governance
• Advise senior university leadership on transactions, data privacy, security, and compliance matters
• Serve as HIPAA Privacy Officer and develop/privacy-focused policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Coordinate with IT and clinical/academic leadership to manage digital risk and data incidents
• Represent the university before external regulatory and law enforcement bodies and respond to inquiries or investigations
• Assist in advising Chancellor, Provost, and other senior administrators on privacy-related legal issues
• Support potential role as Associate General Counsel and Privacy Officer based on qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school
• Active North Carolina Bar or eligible for admission within 1 year
• minimum 5 years of legal practice experience
