Overview In this role you lead legal and policy research for ALPP, directing the Animal Law Digest while shaping a new aquaculture publication. You collaborate with Harvard-affiliated scholars, fellows, and students to track legislation, regulation, and litigation in animal law. You build partnerships with academic institutions, think-tanks, and NGOs to advance policy insights and public engagement. This position offers meaningful impact at the intersection of animal, agricultural, environmental law, and rights of nature, within a mission-driven academic setting.

Responsibilities- Oversee production of the Animal Law Digest and contribute to research and drafting.
- Contribute to new projects analyzing federal/state legislation, regulation, and litigation in animal law and policy.
- Develop partnerships with stakeholders by researching, writing, and communicating with academics, think-tanks, and NGOs.
- Collaborate with Harvard initiatives and manage a portfolio of research, writing, and public engagement on related legal issues.
- Advise on and coordinate research activities of RAs and fellows.
- Develop and manage ALPP resources and contribute to proposals for new projects.
Key requirements- JD degree with admission to the state bar
- At least 3 years of post-graduate relevant experience
- Superior research, writing, editing, and proofreading
- Ability to distill complex information into succinct summaries and meet deadlines
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior attorneys/researchers
- Strong communication, judgment, and discretion
- Commitment to improving animal treatment through law
- Extensive familiarity with animal-related federal/state statutes, case law, and civil procedure
- Collaborative, team-oriented project management
- Staff supervision experience is a plus
