Overview

As an Analyst in Intertek's Food Contact team, you will perform practical lab testing to verify packaging and materials comply with UK, EU and international food contact rules. You'll work across two labs, supporting migration testing, wet chemistry and chemical analyses while reporting results to quality standards. You'll receive extensive role-based training and have opportunities for career development within a global lab network. This role emphasizes teamwork, accuracy, and proactive learning to meet client deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare samples and conduct food contact compliance testing using established EU and FDA methods
  • Perform migration testing, wet chemistry and chemical analysis per approved procedures
  • Record and report results in line with Intertek quality standards and ISO 17025
  • Provide updates to Delivery Manager, Regulatory team and Project Managers on laboratory work
  • Prepare clear written reports within agreed timescales
  • Plan and organise practical laboratory activities across a varied, deadline-driven workload
  • Follow laboratory quality, health and safety procedures and contribute to a proactive safety culture
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet client priorities and support the wider Food Contact service
  • Complete required technical training and actively develop professionally
Key requirements
  • A degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline
  • Sound understanding of chemistry and broad awareness of analytical techniques
  • Practical laboratory experience gained during degree or work; wet chemistry, titrations or gravimetric analysis beneficial
  • Proactive approach with initiative and responsibility
  • Good planning and organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate records and reports
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently and in a team
  • Computer literacy with ability to handle laboratory data and prepare clear written information
  • Knowledge of food contact regulations, EU or FDA methods, or ISO 17025 advantageous (training provided)
