Overview In this Civil Engineer role at HDR Michigan, you will lead site civil design and plan production for diverse projects, from waste facilities to power and data centers. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams through all project phases and act as the Engineer of Record when needed, shaping site infrastructure and permitting strategies. The position combines hands-on design with mentorship of junior staff in an entrepreneurial, employee-owned culture that values inclusion and real-world impact. You will help deliver compliant, well-drawn plans that support project success and client goals.
Responsibilities- Lead site civil design efforts for buildings, facilities, and infrastructure across commercial, industrial, waste, municipal, federal, and power/data center projects
- Serve as Civil Engineer of Record when required
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, and construction documentation
- Prepare drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports
- Manage permitting with federal, state, and local agencies
- Conduct site planning, erosion control planning, and hydrology/hydraulics evaluations
- Perform site grading/earthwork analysis and utility design coordination
- Develop drawings/spec packages and review shop drawings during construction
- May act as Project Manager or Task Manager on select projects
- Mentor junior staff and assist in proposals and cost estimates
- Support client development and stay current with industry trends
- Ensure designs comply with regulations and sign off on completed work
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or equivalent)
- Professional engineering license recognized by the locating licensing board (PE or P.Eng)
- 6+ years of experience in civil/site design preferred, with 4+ years in site civil/land development for buildings/infrastructure
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
