Overview

As an Audit Manager in GHJ's Nonprofit/Single Audit practice, you lead multiple nonprofit engagement projects, guide staff development, and build client relationships. You'll ensure high-quality audits, stay current on governmental and nonprofit standards, and manage engagement profitability. This role sits at the intersection of client service and technical leadership, helping nonprofits navigate complex compliance environments. You'll work with cross-functional teams to drive value and maintain the firm's collaborative culture and independence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple nonprofit/tax-exempt audit and assurance engagements, including planning, staffing, and scheduling
  • Develop and train staff; supervise seniors and staff; review work papers and reports
  • Maintain knowledge of Governmental Audit Standards, Single Audit requirements, and California regulations
  • Manage engagement profitability, billing, and collections; ensure on-time delivery within budget
  • Build and maintain client relationships; communicate progress and issues to partners
  • Plan and staff engagements per firm policies; oversee staff qualifications and assignments
  • Identify and mitigate risk areas; provide technical accounting research and application
  • Contribute to practice development and firm initiatives in nonprofit niche
Key requirements
  • At least five (5) years of public accounting experience with nonprofit focus, including single audits and compliance audits
  • CPA certification
  • Bachelor in Accounting or related field; continuing education minimum of 40 hours/year
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; leadership and supervisory experience
  • Ability to work independently, with good judgment and client liaison experience
  • Experience supervising, coaching, and evaluating staff; ability to manage multiple engagements
  • Excellent oral and written communication
