Overview

In this Tax Director role, you will lead complex tax reviews, oversee tax return quality, and manage examinations for a mix of SEC and closely held clients. You will serve as a subject matter expert, guide senior staff, and drive client service with budget discipline. You will mentor staff, contribute to practice development, and stay ahead of tax developments that affect clients. Responsibilities
  • Perform technical tax review and approval of complex tax returns and examinations
  • Act as subject matter expert for discipline or industry
  • Oversee client service and ensure assignments meet budgeted timelines
  • Manage larger tax returns and supervise staff
  • Lead client meetings, tax planning, and support A&A department with large clients
  • Direct staff development, recruiting, training, and evaluations
  • Ensure accurate billing and collections
  • Maintain knowledge of firm philosophy and tax opinions
  • Stay informed on tax legislation and economic trends affecting clients
  • Participate in practice development and networking activities
  • Develop and coach senior and staff accountants
  • Participate in tax staff reviews and evaluations
  • Occasional travel to client sites, meetings, and seminars
  • Overtime during peak season (Jan 1-Apr 15) with heavy hours possible
Key requirements
  • Seven to ten years in public accounting with increasing tax complexity
  • At least two years representing clients before tax authorities
  • Minimum one year supervising and directing tax preparers
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (required); Master's in taxation preferred
  • Forty hours of continuing education annually
  • CPA license in good standing with the AICPA
