Senior Payroll and Tax Specialist

Overview

In this role, you will process payroll across multiple jurisdictions with emphasis on Canada, Puerto Rico, and multi-state US. You will manage payroll tax returns, monitor regulatory changes, and ensure compliance for Pattern Entities. The position has high visibility and supports employee retention and engagement by delivering accurate payroll and tax services. You will collaborate with payroll, accounting, and senior management to address inquiries and resolve notices. This is a critical role for enabling reliable, compliant payroll aligned with Pattern's mission and values.

Responsibilities
  • Process payroll in collaboration with the payroll team with accuracy and timeliness
  • Manage payroll tax returns for all Pattern Entities, including quarter filings
  • Download, review, and reconcile filings from the HCM system (ADP Workforce Now)
  • Investigate and respond to agency notices and inquires; resolve variances
  • Monitor changes to tax and employment regulations and support compliance initiatives
  • Provide employee support by addressing inquiries and supporting other departments (Accounting, Tax, Senior Management)
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll, HR, benefits, and payroll tax across multiple industries
  • Experience processing Canadian payroll and knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, taxes, and year-end reporting (T4s, ROEs, provincial requirements)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Recent experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • Extensive experience with payroll tax preparation, reconciliation, agency notice resolution, and tax compliance
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and analytical skills with a track record of accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, data analysis)
