Overview

In this role you will lead the underwriting team at Camden National Bank to ensure sound credit decisions and policy adherence. You'll manage complex loan decisions and mentor staff while maintaining high loan quality. The position supports the Consumer Lending and Mortgage operations, aligning with the bank's growth and community-focused mission. You will collaborate with investors, appraisers, and brokers to sustain compliant, efficient loan processes. Responsibilities
  • Manage daily operations of the underwriting department and provide scenario-based credit decisions
  • Oversee underwriting for Conventional, Portfolio, FHA, VA & RD loans and supervise related teams
  • Oversee Consumer Lending operations, policy adherence, workflow management, and staff development
  • Maintain deep knowledge of loan policy, procedures, mortgage products, and compliance requirements
  • Ensure compliance with banking laws, regulations, and fair lending practices
  • Maintain relationships with investors, appraisers, and brokers; communicate policies and overlays
  • Participate in training on industry- and bank-specific topics
  • Obtain CNB Retail Loan Authority and apply knowledge of loan structure
  • Contribute to recruiting, interviewing, and training activities
  • Support peak workloads and cross-functional collaboration when needed
Key requirements
  • 7-10 years in mortgage underwriting
  • 3-5 years in a leadership or management role within banking/finance
  • Preferred: Encompass experience
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven leadership and staff development abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in loan origination systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
