Overview In this role you lead a team of underwriters to monitor, maintain, and originate loans across C&I and Corporate Enterprises, ensuring risk is assessed against credit programs and policy. You will coordinate with Credit Risk, Loan Operations, and Portfolio Management to maintain credit quality and address exceptions. You provide sound risk judgments, contribute to large-scale analyses, and support new business while developing talent and promoting compliant, high-quality credit practices. Responsibilities- Supervise underwriting team and ensure adherence to credit programs and policy
- Coordinate with Credit Administration, Loan Operations, Portfolio Management, and Credit Risk to streamline processes
- Oversee analysis/underwriting activities and support new business with data screening and documentation
- Manage annual reviews of existing relationships and adjust risk ratings as needed
- Evaluate financial condition of C&I, CRE, and Private Banking borrowers for new/existing exposures
- Contribute to complex financial analyses and identify policy exceptions and risk factors
- Identify and communicate risks, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies
- Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and mentor underwriting staff
- Support development and promotion of loan products and training for new underwriters
- Prepare and review credit packages and financial statements; provide timely reporting and analytics
- Utilize loan origination, modification, annual review, and presentation software; monitor maturities and delinquencies
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers on client calls, site visits, and deal structuring
- Ensure AML controls (BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC) are followed
- Assist management with ongoing projects
Key requirements- 10+ years in credit underwriting/credit analysis/portfolio management
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in banking or financial institutions
- Strong knowledge of banking products and documentation
- Bachelor in Business, Accounting or Finance; Master preferred or 5+ years of experience in lieu of education
- Formal credit training preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite; SQL a plus; Salesforce, nCino, FIS IBS a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational abilities
- Thorough understanding of credit procedures, programs and policy
