Overview

As an experienced Commercial Underwriter, you drive credit decisions and risk assessment for a diversified portfolio within the Financial Institutions Group. You work with internal and external partners to structure loan offerings, manage risk, and lead or support special projects. You will apply independent judgment to assess collateral and borrower strength, ensuring compliance with policies and regulatory requirements. This role offers opportunities to influence credit outcomes and mentor others in a collaborative, in-office culture.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare loan offerings for complex transactions and portfolio management.
  • Analyze credit, collateral, and borrower financials to support risk-based decisions.
  • Interact with internal/external customers to gather information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on asset classes and lead/or participate in special projects.
  • Identify risks and mitigants; develop risk scores or assessments; manage ongoing credit risk for assigned portfolios.
  • Coach and review the work of other underwriters; fill in for manager as needed.
  • Conduct pre- and post-approval activities and ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Make or recommend credit decisions in line with policies and approvals.
Key requirements
  • University/college degree with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Certifications often desired; comparable combination of education and experience considered
  • Ability to analyze credit risk, financials, and collateral; strong decision-making skills
  • Experience with risk management and underwriting processes
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and internal policies
