Overview

In this role you will support the Legal Department in managing regulatory, legal and compliance risk for the firm's business acceptance, conflicts, confidentiality and sanctions programs. You will work across borders within a global, cross-functional team to assess client suitability, conduct due diligence and advise on engagement terms. You will help shape risk processes, training and information barriers while staying aligned with US law and firm policies. This is a key role for maintaining the firm's risk controls and global consistency.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on business acceptance issues including conflicts of interest, confidential information, reputational risk and sanctions across the US
  • Perform due diligence and reputational risk assessments on new clients and matters
  • Assist with resolving conflicts, confidentiality, reputational and AML/sanctions issues and drafting waivers
  • Answer questions on US law, regulations and firm policies related to conflicts of interest, ethics and compliance
  • Review client engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines for conflicts and US law
  • Provide ad hoc advice on ethics, regulatory compliance, audit letters, securities, external appointments, and fee arrangements
  • Assist in reviewing lateral hires for potential conflicts of interest
  • Collaborate with sector teams across the firm and understand US regulatory developments
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships within the Legal Department for consistent global operation
  • Assist with training on risk issues (including New Hire Induction and Intapp system training) and act as a department ambassador
  • Help develop and implement business acceptance processes as part of broader programs
Key requirements
  • Hybrid role requiring in-office presence three days per week in DC, Boston, or Raleigh
  • Must hold a law degree and be admitted to practice law in the US
  • High standards of accuracy and efficiency with practical, common-sense advice
  • Excellent drafting skills and ability to provide clear commercial guidance
  • Meticulous record-keeping of matters and advice
  • Ability to influence and liaise with legal and support staff to resolve complex issues
  • Capacity to manage key projects alongside day-to-day queries
  • High level IT skills including Word, Outlook and Excel and strong research ability
  • Willingness to work out of hours and travel as needed
