Overview

In this role you will oversee post-award activities for sponsored projects within a department/division, ensuring compliant management of complex grants and contracts. You will lead a small team of grants staff, coordinate with the Office of Research Administration, and provide expert budgeting, reporting, and closeout support. You will guide faculty and analysts on regulations, subawards, and sponsor requirements, driving accurate financial and technical reporting. This position offers strategic impact through tight collaboration with research administration and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as liaison for Departmental Sponsored Projects Office and Office of Research Administration
  • Coordinate final grant package presentations and approvals with ORA
  • Prepare proposal budgets for PI review and advise on approved budget changes
  • Manage portfolios of departmental faculty and maintain budget monitoring systems
  • Review SAP reports, analyze variances, and take corrective actions
  • Oversee internal sponsored audits and account reconciliation systems
  • Develop forecasting and expenditure trend reports for awards
  • Provide guidance to faculty on grant and contract applications and compliance
  • Ensure post-award processes: award setup, account setup verification, effort reporting, cost transfers, subcontract paperwork
  • Oversee complex award management activities and supervise grants team members
  • Assist with grant/contract closeouts and ensure proper closeout handling
  • Maintain updates on current grants and contracts and report financial status to PIs and leadership
  • Ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines, internal protocols, and COIs
Key requirements
  • Five years of related experience in sponsored research/financial positions
  • Two years in a lead or supervisory capacity with leadership development or SME role in JHU grants and contracts
  • Bachelor's Degree; additional education may substitute for experience
  • Ability to manage complex proposals and subawards across multiple projects
