Tax Manager, Core Tax Services

Overview

In this role you advise clients on tax implications of business objectives, evaluate actions to minimize tax and compliance costs, and serve as the primary contact for complex tax issues. You'll apply tax knowledge to identify risks and potential policy changes, while contributing to marketing, networking, and business development within your area of specialization. You may also provide written tax advice and help ensure quality and timely service.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee tax compliance for clients and ensure adherence to Firm policies and TQM
  • Lead top-level review of tax returns and coordinate with specialists
  • Plan and monitor tax engagements, including budgeting, staffing, and billing
  • Manage client relationships and set expectations for projects
  • Conduct research, frame issues, and communicate analyses clearly
  • Explain components of income tax provision and uncertain positions to clients
  • Ensure proper ASC 740, FAS 109 and FIN 48 application and communication with Assurance
  • Provide tax consulting support to maximize client benefits and reduce taxes
  • Develop and implement work plans for STS/CTS involvement on projects
  • Mentor and supervise associates and seniors; train on tools and processes
  • Prepare and review Written Tax Advice (WTA) and exam support
  • Lead internal tax specialization and potential CPE training
  • Develop and implement strategy to improve client position and processes
Key requirements
  • Five+ years of tax experience, including public accounting, industry, or consulting
  • Bachelor in Accounting (required); Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred
  • CPA, Attorney, or EA (or equivalent) required
  • Prior supervisory experience required
  • Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to develop client relationships
  • Strong analytical, research, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with tax research databases and tax software preferred
  • Ability to delegate and lead teams effectively
