Overview In this role you lead the financial stewardship of ICL's housing and real estate portfolio, aligning finance with facilities and program operations. You will oversee accounting, reporting, and compliance across complex, multi-entity structures, supporting development, operations, and long-term portfolio strategy. You'll advise senior leadership on capital planning, acquisitions, refinancing, and portfolio optimization, driving accurate financial insights and governance. This position offers impact across cross-functional teams and external stakeholders in a mission-driven real estate portfolio.
Responsibilities- Lead accounting, financial reporting, and compliance across housing and real estate entities (including nonprofits and affiliated structures)
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, consolidations, and executive management reporting
- Ensure accuracy of journal entries, reconciliations, lease schedules, loan amortizations, and intercompany activity
- Coordinate audits, tax filings, and reporting to lenders, syndicators, and government agencies
- Ensure regulatory and financing compliance across development, construction, and operations
- Oversee partnership agreements, regulatory documents, and entity compliance
- Advise CFO on real estate development, project structuring, acquisitions, refinancing, and portfolio optimization
- Support long-term financial modeling and sustainability planning
- Oversee operating budgets, forecasts, reserve tracking, insurance, risk management
- Partner with Facilities and program leadership to align financial performance with operations
- Act as liaison to third-party property management firms; monitor performance and cost efficiency
- Lead process improvements, internal controls, and financial system optimization
- Drive standardization of reporting, workflows, and documentation across the portfolio
- Support enterprise capital planning and multi-department strategic finance projects
- Collaborate across Finance, Facilities, Procurement, Development, and external stakeholders
- Manage complex entity structures and regulatory environments
- Engage with auditors, lenders, syndicators, and government agencies
- Balance strategic leadership with detailed financial oversight
- Travel up to 50% in Greater New York area
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA strongly preferred
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- 3+ years in a leadership role
- Experience with nonprofit and affordable housing structures (e.g., LIHTC, LP, LLC, joint ventures)
- Experience managing audits, consolidations, and multi-entity financial reporting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and nonprofit/real estate compliance
- Understanding of real estate finance, housing regulations, and funding structures
- Advanced Excel; experience with Sage Intacct, MIP, or similar platforms preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; ability to present to executives
