Job description

Overview

In this role you drive the strategic claims function for property, catastrophe, general liability, auto, and workers' compensation. You manage complex claims, lead TPAs and vendors, and shape coverage and settlement decisions to improve outcomes and efficiency. You'll act as a technical resource, mentor teammates, and spearhead process improvements across the Claims & Risk team. This position offers hybrid work in Austin with potential remote arrangements for strong candidates, and opportunities to influence risk strategy at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee complex property, catastrophe, liability, auto, and workers' compensation claims
  • Evaluate investigations, reserves, settlements, and coverage determinations
  • Analyze claim documentation to ensure appropriate outcomes and provide strategic recommendations
  • Maintain settlement authority within limits and advise on higher-exposure claims
  • Lead catastrophe and large-loss property claim management and negotiations
  • Coordinate with TPAs, carriers, consultants, engineers, and forensic accountants
  • Review business interruption analyses and property damage valuations
  • Support disaster response and claim recovery initiatives
  • Liaise with TPAs, carriers, brokers, attorneys, and external vendors
  • Challenge claim decisions and reserve positions when appropriate
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure service levels
  • Mentor less experienced claims professionals
  • Identify emerging claim trends and propose proactive risk mitigations
  • Assist in development/maintenance of SOPs and best practices
  • Develop and implement claims KPIs and reporting
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive insurance claims experience
  • Experience handling complex property and casualty claims
  • Strong understanding of policy interpretation and coverage analysis
  • Experience managing relationships with TPAs, carriers, brokers, and legal counsel
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
