Overview In this role you will monitor policy and regulatory developments across North America, analyze energy and utility issues, and support CyrusOne's advocacy and positioning on energy infrastructure. You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to translate policy into actionable guidance for data center growth. You'll track regulatory proceedings and trends shaping reliability, transmission, and renewables to support strategic decisions. This role offers a meaningful chance to influence how policy affects data center operations and energy procurement. You will contribute to shaping CyrusOne's energy policy practice and cross-functional initiatives.
Responsibilities- Monitor legislative, regulatory, and policy developments at multiple jurisdictional levels impacting CyrusOne.
- Research and analyze energy, utility, market, infrastructure, and regulatory issues affecting data center development and operations.
- Track utility commissions, legislative initiatives, market reform, and regulatory proceedings relevant to growth strategy.
- Summarize policy developments and communicate implications to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain awareness of energy infrastructure, grid reliability, transmission, and sustainability trends.
- Support development and execution of advocacy initiatives; prepare policy position papers, briefings, and stakeholder communications.
- Coordinate internal review of policy materials and engage with associations, consultants, and external partners.
- Prepare for meetings with policymakers, regulators, utilities, and industry groups.
- Build relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders; participate in industry meetings and workshops.
- Gather information from experts to support policy positions; collaborate across departments to understand policy impacts.
- Provide policy and regulatory research to business leaders; evaluate regulatory risks and opportunities for projects and energy procurement.
- Develop strategic recommendations and analytical materials; support executive decision-making.
Key requirements- 7+ years in energy policy, regulatory affairs, government/public affairs, or related field.
- Experience with utilities, regulators, agencies, energy companies, or trade associations.
- Knowledge of energy markets, utility regulation, energy infrastructure, renewable policy, and regulatory processes.
- Experience monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation abilities; ability to explain complex topics to varied audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities; willingness to travel.
